I believe, due to the ever-increasing violence along our borders which has turned both Mexican and American border communities into armed camps and/or ghost towns, we need a "coalition of the willing". The US Special Forces and the Mexican Independent Forces, the other Mexican military organizations that exist independently of the Army and Navy command structures should combine to form a joint task force both overt and covert. Included in the MIF is the Army Corps, consisting of two mechanized infantry brigades with a full complement of combat and support troops. In addition, there are two brigades of the Corps of Military Police, Special Forces units, Presidential Guards (another motorized brigade), and a parachute brigade. All these independent troops are located in Mexico City where they act as an active duty reserve and, frankly, last line of defense against a popular uprising. This certainly is not popular, but an uprising it is fueled by greed at the highest levels in the Mexican government. At one time, a special "Rural Defense Corps" (or "Rurales") played a role similar to our early State militia, but the role of the "Rurales" has been greatly diminished in recent years. I think it should be reinstated as the first line of defense against the cartels who are supplied by the same gangsters our Special Forces, operating covertly in places like Tres Fronteras and Bogota, have been chasing for 15 years! Our borders resemble some areas of Iraq and unless we address the issue forthrightly, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix and Albuquerque may be our next Fallujah, Mosel, Baghdad and Kirkuk.
